Auditioners will do cold readings from the script.

Target age for this show is 10 years through College.

Character Breakdown

MARGIE: Bookshop owner; scatterbrained but eternally hopeful, loves every book in the bookshop

BOMBALURINA: Margie’s cat; sassy, but learns to be brave, must be able to physicalize cat-like movement

ELLEN: Margie’s older sister; supportive but also judgmental

LEONARD GRIMBLE: Margie’s landlord, fears disaster at every turn

ORTENSIA: Older book fairy, stickler for the rules

FEONORA: Ortensia’s enthusiastic but clumsy trainee

TOM THUMB: Beatrix Potter’s perpetually hungry mouse

HUNCA MUNCA: Tom’s more sensible wife

GILBERT MCADOO: Persnickety book collector

CINDERELLA: Not the Disney version

DOROTHY GALE: Kansas farm girl; clever, compassionate

TOM SAWYER: Mischievous Missouri schoolboy

DON QUIXOTE: Spanish nobleman; thinks he’s a medieval knight

SHERLOCK HOLMES: Brainy English detective

POLLYANNA: New England schoolgirl, annoyingly optimistic

FAGIN: Devious English pickpocket

SLICK: Easily confused exterminator

SLACK: Overly eager exterminator
