Interested in volunteering at Sherman Community Players?
SCP has been putting on shows in Sherman for 76 consecutive seasons, and it’s a great place to volunteer – we have a vibrant community of people who love theater and are involved with SCP in many different ways, and new volunteers are always welcome! The time commitment is up to you – you can volunteer as much, or as little, as works for you and your schedule.
So why would I want to get involved? Here are some reasons:
- Be creative and have fun. Whether you’re helping build and paint sets, making costumes, acting on stage, operating a spotlight or the sound and light board, creating props, working backstage during a show, or ushering patrons and serving concessions at intermission, you’ll have fun and get to use your creativity, too!
- Have a sense of accomplishment. It’s an amazing feeling to know you’re part of the team that has put a great theatrical production on stage and helped our tradition of theater excellence in Texoma continue!
- Make new friends. You’ll meet friendly people who share your interests.
- Spend quality time with your family. Doing theater together makes great family memories!
Where do I start?
If you’re new to the theater, often the best place to start is to work as an usher (showing patrons to their seats) or to help with set building or costuming – but you are welcome to explore any of our volunteer roles and see what you like best. Just fill out our Volunteer Interest Form at the link below and we will contact you about upcoming opportunities!
We also have a Volunteer Open House every six months or so. This is where members of the public are invited to see how the theater operates behind the scenes, meet our staff and hear about our different volunteer opportunities. Our next Volunteer Open House is on Saturday November 9 at 2pm – you’re invited to come and see what we’re all about!
